I am looking for plans or ideas to build a waste oil furnace to keep my tractors and shop warm. I have many gallons of used engine, trans, hyd, oil and know there are home made furnaces out there. Just looking for ideas to heat when I am in the shop, not one to leave unattended.
Thanks
Nick

Not sure if there are any plans anywhere but you could build a simple "drip" system. I'll try to describe it.

First, set a 30 or 55 gal drum up with a flue to vent it to the outside. The bung should be open for air.

Rig a tank/can for your fuel with a spigot and a line to the drum. Use a spigot that you can open to allow fuel to just drip out.

Attach the line to the top of the drum so that fuel can be dripped into the drum.

Put a little fuel in the bottom of the drum and light it. Adjust the amount of heat by adjusting the flow of fuel. Slow drip, low heat. Fast drip, high heat.

Thanks,
That looks really simple to build. I am starting this weekend. Hard to believe that I'm thinking of this project when it is 90 degrees here in Wisconsin, but in a few short months we will be back into winter!
