I have a 1993 L2650GST that I started up today after not being used for a few months, it's been cold. I noticed that the air filter light and the alternator light stayed on. I took the air filter out completely and restarted the tractor and they still stayed on. Not really sure what's going on here, part of me is wondering if it's in my head and they are supposed to stay on, but I know they aren't.....right? It's raining and I'm a wussy or I'd go up to the barn and look at the owner's manual to see what the lights should be doing, but anyway, I'm sure somebody will have some ideas.

Thanks

13 people read your post before me, I guess they are clueless or either as me, think you should meander up to the barn and read the owner manual.

Good luck.

Well, my first thought was that a mouse had chewed through the wiring on the alternator and built a nest in the air cleaner intake. But you said you took that out, so I don't know what to say. Let us know what you find.

I called a local Kubota dealership and talked with a service guy today. He said that if it doesn't clear up after a few days of warm dry weather it will require some digging into, but he would start by spraying the ignition switch with penetrating oil to displace any water that may be causing problems.

Don't know guys, I'll try it and let you know what I can see. Unfortunately the tractor isn't at my house right now. I have it sitting at a buddies place because I'm trying to sell it. I know, I've never had a lick of trouble with it and this happens when I'm trying to sell it. I don't imagine much is wrong with it, but it's frustrating. It may be water somewhere it shouldn't be as it's been sitting outside lately and I always kept it in the barn.

If anybody has any thoughts though I'd like to hear them.

It's been dry and warming up the last few days so I went out to start the tractor yesterday. Lights were still on.

I tapped on the sensor for the air filter a few times, no luck. I then watched the light while I covered the air intake hose with my hand, the light came on brighter then. Don't know if that means anything or not, but I thought I'd throw that in there.

Haven't tried spraying the ignition switch with penetrating oil yet, but I guess I will unless someone has a better idea.

I believe that I would replace the air filter first.

I believe I would check the charging system. Check alt output at least with a voltmeter. You should see about 13.5 to 14 volts runnning a 12v system. A load test is a better way to test if you have an inductive amp probe.

I have a L2650 GST as well with the same problem. I bought mine used last year and the indicator lights were on since. I thought it was due to the previous owner loosing the ignition key and by passing the ignition for a push button start. The lights did not work with this set up. I purchased the keys and have the starter hooked back the proper way. My indicator lights are still on. My mechanic (close friend) found that my altenator is shot. I will be replacing it soon and i will let you know if that does the trick. According to my operators manual, the indicator light is due to a charging system issue.

I'm going to have to get a multimeter and check the battery voltage while it's running. Hopefully it's not the alternator. $$$

Covering the air intake with your hand will cause the engine speed to drop, and if there is a bad diode in the alternator, this will cause the light to become brighter. I suggest that you put a battery charger on the tractor while the engine is running, and see if it makes a difference in the light going out or brightness. If it does, then the alternator is defective, or the belt might be slipping. I can't guarantee that this will work in all instances, but I have found that it will work on certain types of alternators. The battery charger "fools" the system to thinking that the alternator is putting out the proper amount. I know that this won't work on modern single wire alternators. Dusty
