Want to buy a D Series Toolcat

I doubt that they have a "quota" of Toolcats at your dealership. You can order one for yourself if you do not get that one. The lead time right now is about 6 weeks. Based on the numbers I have gotten ~12% off is reasonable. So you should only pay about $38k. Think of the great attachments you can get for the extra 5K. Are you in a sales tax state? Ouch! on this one. 7% here! At $43K they are not "throwing in" anything. You are paying nearly list. Negotiate. Get the free money (0% for 36 mo.) that Bobcat is offering too!

I was at the dealer yesterday and noticed that the new brochere for the D series listed 59 hp instead of 56. Was this a misprint or is there more hp now?

Literature states 59 hp, Bobcat website states 56 hp:

Toolcat Utility Work Machine Specifications - Bobcat Company

I thought it was 56hp?

Apparently the Kubota V2003-M-DI-TE2B (used in Toolcat according to the website) is able to produce 59 hp in some applications:

That seems to be very common, Toro lists the HP as 60 for several of their mowers: http://toro.com/golf/docs/gm4500-D-4700-D_specs.pdf

Does the literature state they are still using up the 2003 stock? The 2003 is not currently manufactured in the US. Perhaps they are using the 2403, the only direct injection engine that meets current standards, and generates 59hp acc to engine MFG.

Time to talk to another dealer.

This whole "bargaining" thing with the dealer seems like it could be counterproductive. I use my TC to make money and I want the dealer on my side when the thing breaks (and it's going to sooner or later). I don't view it on the same level as a pickup or car where I do dicker on the price. I bought my TC from a local Bobcat dealer. It had 120 hours on it and was a return due to the infamous D-Series crappy casting problem. He gave me what I thought was a decent deal on the machine given its checkered past along with a new-unit warranty. Perhaps if was a brand-new my approach would have been different....those beauties are EXPENSIVE indeed.

I've had a couple of issues with the TC that weren't cause for immediate concern and the dealer has bent over backwards in terms of addressing those. I don't know if that was because we had a decent customer/client relationship right from the get-go or I just got lucky.

Anyway, I depend on the TC to make money and I flog this machine pretty well on the job. I want to have a good relationship with the folks who are going to service this critter. Saving $$$ is nice but from my standpoint trying to wring-out the absolutely best deal from a dealer may not be worth the time in a long-term context. I guess time will tell. YMMV.

I totally agree with you, its not worth haggling over $500 or even a $1000 just for that reason, "service" Also one would think when you do a fair amount of business with a dealer, that you can "trust " that you are getting a fair price BUT when you call another dealer not even that far away from you,and right away you get a price for the same machine apples to apples for $3500.00 less one would get a little irate!

When I was looking to buy my toolcat last year the dealer would not discount at all, and they only had 1 So I LOOKED AROUND ON LINE AND FOUND A PLACE IN PA . Laurel Mountain equipment I think and I bought a 2006 with cab heat/air high flow, turbo, with the special air intake 150 hrs on it looked brand new he drove it up and delivered to to my Michigan home for 28K total looks great runs great had no problems and saved 12K I didnt even go look at it first. He said if I was serious about buying one he new if he brought it up I would take it. He was right. Best 12K I ever saved. I foget the guys name , but I would defently buy from him again. GOOD LUCK

"Bargaining" as it was put is really good business sense. We are referring to about a greater than $3000 price differential. If you feel that you need to pay your dealer $3K to get better service, you should be getting your service elsewhere (and buying your equipment elsewhere too). Dealers make money on service (including warranty service) and should be as competitive on timely quality service as they are on sales. My dealer was very competitive on price and has a great reputation for their service too.
