Want a 3PH sprayer...

Here is what I want to do:

I have about 7-8 acres of fields I want to spray to kill the grass and plant food plots for deer. Most are wide open areas, but a couple of plots are accesible by crossing a creek and through the woods. These fields are small and a large 20 foot wide boom would not work.

What gallon capacity should be looking at? Brands?

Also is there a website I can go to learn more about ratios of mix and speed of tractor, etc...

Fimco makes some nice 3ph sprayers that TSC carries. The booms fold in so they go anywhere your tractor goes without having to worry about hanging up. Whatever chemical you use should have a rate of use per acre. Learn how to calibrate the sprayer so you'll know how many gallons it is spraying per acre.

A word of caution about the pump. Remove it and oil it after each use, especially if you spray Roundup or generic. Glysophate is very corrosive and if left in the pump, it will greatly shorten the useful life of that pump. I learned this the hard way.

Most sprayers are easily calibrated @ 10 gallons per acre "rate" That's the amount of water that'll spray. When you determine how much chemical per acre you need, add that much per every 10 gallons in the sprayer, and your off to the races!

There is such a thing as a "boomless sprayer" They employ nozzles that point outwards from the sprayer to cover around 12' total, but they are subject to drift and somewhat inaccurate in their application.

Most "cheaper" sprayers use a boom that covers 12 to 14'. They fold in to less than 6' in transport width. You can also use a solenoid valve to gate off portions of the boom when needing to spray less than the booms full width.

The FIMCO sprayers TSC sells can be equipped with all the bells and whistles of BIG dollar sprayers. They come ready to do the basics already. Get a TEE-JET product manual (from TEE JET or a GOOD ag supplyer) REad and absorb all the various options you have to custom tune any sprayer to your application.

Well there are no TSCs in Louisiana or Mississippi...

I am going to have to go to my tractor dealer and see what he can oder.

So I should figure 10 gallons per acre of capacity correct?
So a 100 gallon tank will be about right in my case. A 12 foot boom would be good in my case.

Good point on cleaning out the pump. I wouldn't have thought about that.

Demco makes some nice 3 piont rigs with hypro pto pumps & small booms. I have the 30 gallon model with 7' boom, it's a high quality machine.
