I assume those of you who shop at Walmart have noticed that the trade mark "Walmart Greeter" is no more. They pulled them back from the door for a few days, apparently offered some of them other jobs, and laid off the rest. I understand this was nationwide, if not world wide. I'm sure the shoplifters appreciate it. But I'd just guess that the increased losses to shoplifters will be less than the salaries they were paying the greeters. I suppose it's "good business", but I for one hated to see that happen.

I wonder what's going to happen to the handicapped guy at 'my' Wal-Mart in SC? It was a good job for him.

It will get worse before it gets better is all I can say with certainty speaking as a small business owner myself.

Its been bad a long time as is, we are greatly penalized for being employers ask any one of us. It gets worse every year and it will get mind numbing here real soon.

That's too bad. I though that they were just taking a break.

I'm sorry for the ones who lost their jobs, but I won't mind there being no greeters - I prefer to be left alone to do my thing, shoot in get what I need & shoot out, & don't need a howdy or friendly smile to be able to do so  Call me unfriendly if you will :confused3: :)

Within 10 years Walmart will become another Kmart. Getting rid of the greeters is just another example of its disregard for customer service. No matter how big a company is if they alienate their customers the company's fate is sealed. I have a problem with a Walmart gift card. Sent them an email clearly stating problem. Their reply was irrelevant. I sent another email. They sent reply stating my problem "is being elevate to the next level" and I would have a solution in 3-5 days. That was 12 days ago and still no reply. The best way I know to alienate a customer is to give him the run-a-round!

But you did actually receive some kind of reply? I've sent their headquarters an e-mail twice in the last 4 or 5 years and got no response at all.

This doesn't surprise me because there are multiple reports scattered across the internet, about Walmart treating employees badly. Walmart does whatever is in Walmart's best interest, and I no longer shop there if I can absolutely help it.

For that matter, I'd love nothing better than to see Walmart close it's doors and fade into history forever, because they single-handedly killed off Main Street America, and I despise them for it.

Just say no to ChinaMart (AKA: Walmart).

That's to bad. Sometimes I am looking for something specific and will ask the greeter, much faster than looking around the store or finding an employee. Don't go to Walmart that often but got to say, we need more friendly customer service not less. Interestingly I go back to the stores where I am looked after even if they are a bit more expensive. If I have to shop I prefer to have a somewhat pleasant experience. :)

Thanks for posting. I was at the Walmart store that I always shop at, two days ago. I also thought that they were on break or helping a customer in the store. I always liked talking to the "Greeters" and they would always assist me in locating one of the mobility carts. Just a thought? Who is going to place a tag on the items that you are bringing into the store in regards to "returns"? Hopefully, the Walmart Corporation will reconsider this new policy. The wages that the Greeters were paid were most certainly minimum wage or slightly higher. There are those that will say that this is a cost effective measure undertaken by Walmart. Perhaps that is the reasoning why Corporate decided to implement this policy, but I personally regard it as a mistake. Sad indeed.
