I'm searching for a GOOD quality 5' rotary cutter. I'm looking for the best value, not cheap and not overpriced. I do want good, durable quality.

I've stumbled upon a 5' Walco Whistler from a tiny dealer in the area. It is a new one. $1390 best price plus tax. 10 gauge steel.

I can't find much info anywhere on Walco. Do any of you have experience with this product? Durable? Parts availability? I'm debating buying this Walco OR a Bush Hog rd5. I think the Bush Hog is too light duty perhaps. (I'm only maintaining a frequently mowed 10 acre field)

A "wild card" option is a King Kutter for $1000. Light duty too I guess but I haven't seen one up close.

Your real world opinions would help. I've NEVER bought an implement before. This is going to go on my recently purchased Massey 135

Thanks much.

I do not know the density of the acreage you are working on, but I bought a Massey ferguson 135 diesel and the owner sold me a 6 foot brush hog squealer 720 with it.
Unless you have access or tree issues restricting you to five feet, I might consider larger.
Mine used to maintain 43 acres of pasture and peach trees.
I also have a KK 72 inch finish mower and just brought home an Alamo SHD88 with 88 inch cut, but I haven't used the flail mower yet.
You can always take a smaller bite with a big mower, but you can't take a bigger bite with a little one.
Just my two cents.
Happy tractor ing!
James.

I have a Walco dump box. It's well made. Can't comment on their cutters.

I have used a Walco Whizzler mower. Very good quality and does a good job. Handles small willow trees/brush and heavy reed-canary grass quite well.

My Massey 135 is a GAS machine, no power steering.

I don't know how many horsepower it is for sure. That's why I thought the 5 footer might be the safe bet. I understand the idea of a six footer being able to take a smaller bite.

Of course a six footer takes a little more storage space but I could figure that out. Would a six footer, when lifted, cause the tractor's front tires to want to lift do you think?

I know I'm very late on this reply, but I have a Whistler Rotary cutter and it's great. The company doesn't have a web presence, but the thing cuts through some thick brush. I've put about 40 hours on mine and haven't thrown a sheer pin yet. I went with a 4.5 foot cutter so I could have more hp per foot, because I have a lot of thick brush.

A King Kutter gives a great cut but is not very sturdily built. It will be fine if you are cutting grass or weeds on fairly level ground.
