I can't believe that people are putting those steel arch truss buildings up in 3 days. Has taken me almost 3 weeks just to get all the arches up but got the last tonite:drink:scotch n a cigar.
Then tomorrow get to bolt it all tight and then the end walls, might make it done by thanksgiving. End walls should be easier as I can reach both sides at the same time for bolting hopefully. No more up and down a ladder 2x just for one bolt, yea!

Will do thanks yooper, got enough scotch for one more after tonite and 1 more cigar for when it is all done. Rigged up 2 4x4's with a cross piece to hold a wrench for the roof bolts, haven't figured out what to do for the sides. Maybe just make a couple of varying lengths to lean against the wall. Need a few more half inch wrenches. Hopefully won't have very many that I can't get from the inside alone or need arms that stretch as long as rubber man to reach around the building:laughing:

Anyone out there got any ideas of holding a bolt you cant reach?? Wish I had a couple big sheet magnets out here, that might have worked with a stick tied to the wrench to catch on another bolt head.

Last 3 arches were ez as I took the pallet off the forks and was able to go from fork to fork up the walls putting the bolts in, didn't have to use the ladder.

"scotch n a cigar"
I thought I was the only rewards oneself as such. ;)

Does look like heck of one man project.

If you are saying,"you can get the bolts in the panels and then trying to put the nuts on".

When you install the bolts, put some silicone sealand on them. Let it cure. Then install the nuts and tighten them.

I'm not sure I understood what you were trying to do. Maybe this will help. Dave

Can't comment on your progress or your celebration, but that is one of the coolest (and unusual) wheel set-ups I've seen on a Kubota!

Congratulations on the building, looks nice. I see you built at the bottom of that hill. How did you address any drainage concerns, if any, from water runoff?

Well Rick I find your location and projects fascinating which leads me to some questions, if you don't mind me prying into your life setting.

Are you building your building for tractor winter storage? From other posts I know you are a fisherman, would enjoy hearing more about that, and I think that this is your non-winter fishing residence where you are building. Is that the case? Are you originally from Alaska? Do you live on the island year round? Guess I have watched too many Deadliest Catch shows and find your part of the country and occupation fascinating.

I am also fascinated by the tire set up on your tractor. Never have seen a Kubota set up that way before. I think I understand the concept. You have soft sand to work in near your boat landing and duals let you do that. What I had not seen before was the front tire set up. Makes sense that the front duals don't come into play until it gets soft enough for the inner larger tires to sink. That would eliminate problems on firmer surfaces. Was this your set up or common practice in the area. Did the dealer set it up for you or did you work it out?

Thanks for posting. Sure hope you will share more photos in the future.

I have to admit I was looking more at your front tires than your building. Are the bolts you are trying to put in a castle style where once in place you don't need wrench to hold it? If so maybe just some duct tape. If they need to be held then maybe some vice grips (as long at there's something to keep them from turning.

CTW the building is sitting on beach gravel, 4' down it is pretty much a river of fresh water coming out of the whole cove so it is great drainage, just pulled the beach grass and poured the footings

Mark V The building is 50x26x16 so hopefully there will be room for the tractor too. I do 3 or 4 fisheries out of here depending on the year. Used to live here most of the year round til the kids needed school in town then lived in the town of Kodiak during school year (135 miles by boat) but the last one just flew the coop this summer so will get rid of the house in town along with the wifes job in the next year or so. This will be home base then with a few months in Oregon and a little harassing time our 4 kids thrown in wherever they end up.
As far as deadliest catch goes, I am no expert, only seen the show 2x but I do have over 30 years fishing both the Bering sea the gulf of Alaska and they really hollywooded the show up. It is way more fun than they let on.
No other tractors around here(but a neighbor emailed me the other day and said he just bought one) a few have bobcats but I wanted the pto and double attachments that a tractor would give me. Had to do the duals as the tractor without them can barely get up the beach. The dealer set me up with the rears(unverferth.com) but wouldn't help with or warranty the front. They were ez to make with a extra rim that I cut up and welded to the smaller wheel. Until my wife quits her job, I am mostly solo out here so I will be hangin out with you all on tbn alot!!

Crazy Al, thats a good idea about the duct tape, would have to torch it to get the frost off but then it should stick. Got the first 8' of the side walls today, used the air socket wrench set on 60psi and it torqued just right to seal the washers and for the 3,487,409 bolts I did(slight exageration) only 26 spun on me so with so few I just grabbed the tail end of the bolt with the vice grips and tightened the nut with the end wrench. Figured that few if I ever have to take them off I can just break them off. Someone was smilin on me today and if I have that kind of luck tomorrow with the bolts not spinnin, I should finish tightening tomorrow.

Thanks for the input guys.
