Michael is correct. No need for feathering. You will rapidly learn to stop the closing action - at the right time. On my big logs & rocks - it's just before I hear the hydraulic pump start to "grunt". I hear the pine bark start to snap/crackle. I can hear the top lid close down on big rocks. OR - stop short and let the object ride loose - contained within the grapple jaws.

I've got W&R Long valves on both my MX5800 and L6060. I installed .045" flow restrictors in the hyd. hoses of my FEL plow and grapple. They slow down the cylinder action to the point where feathering isn't necessary. Works great unless you're trying to pick up pumpkins or watermelons. :)

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I didn’t realize how the solenoid worked and thought I’d have issues with it clamping the brush too hard. I think I’ll get the wr long kit.
