My parents commissioned this totem pole by a local (Massachusetts) artist. They got many a strange look when they trailered it to their farm in Maine. Mom didn't take pictures of the installation (Dad used the TC40 to lift it up).

It stands about 12' high

That would really be a hit at Halloween too! Nice totem pole. What did your dad use to anchor it?

Interesting. Very well done. However, I do not think there is any competition. The New England artist does makes things that are interesting. However our Texas "W-Harv" makes interesting things that also serve a purpose like a gate, a bridge, a pond, a building etc.... Yep I don't think we can compare the two artist unless you can use that pole to hole up something useful like a Texas flag. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Don! I'll send him a Texas flag if you'll convince him to hang it on the totem and take a picture of it. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

...and you now have the excuse you needed to get the steel tower. Tell Karen it's a totem pole. Yep... that'll work. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

All kidding aside... Hazmat, that is a nice lookin' piece of work and very unusual. It grows on you. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Could it support a 100lb chunk O rock shaped like a star set in the middle of it?

Not to doubt the Texas boys, but not much work looking that good coming out of any state, Texas included. That is absolutely incredible work. Super, super technical. Anybody who works in wood knows real art at a glance. That's it. Not to disparage the Texas flag, but I wouldn't disgrace it with any accoutrements. Actually, I almost hate to see it exposed to the elements, but that is the point no doubt. Give that Yankee artist an At-A-Boy! Not much in wood I can't do. But I marvel at that! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Opps, On a second look, is that all metal? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif The connection plate certainly is. If so, it's still impeccable good work.

A local chainsaw artist carved a HUGe totem pole and sold it to a local rich guy for many thousands. I wish I had a pic of it.

A friend of mine has comminsed him to creat a huge mantle for his firplace that is a mountain lake scene. He's also carving two bears which will be appearing to be climbing his stone chimney.
