I am so proud of what that Veteran did!

If he were put in jail for what he did, I would gladly step up to bail him out...in a heartbeat!

If more Americans were this patriotic, it'd be a much better country:(

KRNV Video Player

Link didn't work for me, using Firefox, but I did see a big slug of data going back to the server. Wonder what they were trying so hard to see on my machine?

Seemed to me that the flag taking was staged by the media. If the guy flying the flag was violating the law ( which he admitted to not knowing the law) then the police should have been called not the media. Vigilant justice is one step away from anarchy and the loss of true freedom.

If you have the IE Tab add-on for Firefox, you can switch to it and watch the clip.

I think the Vet either waited until he saw the camera crew or happened by at the right time. I don't think he was working with the camera crew but I do think he took advantage of them being there. Wise move IMHO. Heck, he may have been the one to call it in and used the media to record it all.

I saw the clip, and aside from whether or not the guy should have done it, I'll give you this, he was certainly fired up about it.

However, the expression on the business owner's face was priceless...

Reminds me of the saying, "Do not ascribe to malice that which can be explained by ignorance." I knew it was illegal to fly another country's flag above our own on US soil. Apparently the Hispanic, but said to be American citizen, owner of the property did not. He could have been politely told...or impolitely told if that is one's inclination. Tearing down the Mexican flag and throwing it on the ground wasn't cool either.

So far Mexicans don't seem inclined to burn American flags, like many other people around the world. It sure would be nice if we could maintain our relatively friendly relationship with them, while somehow also securing our borders against illegal immigrants.

I'm using IE and the link didn't work for me, either, so I didn't get to see it.

I'll second that. I am sick and tired of the liberal media persecuting patriotic Americans like the one in the video. I applaud the local media in Reno. They seemed to come down on the side of America for a change. I'll bet their bretheren in the national media are somewhat stunned by this fact.

I know the school's don't even cover it. I usually ask the scouts about it at board of reviews that I was on. because it's in their hand book they should know it.

While I admire the vet's passion the truth is he committed robbery and maybe even armed robbery since he used a very large knife to steal the flag and then flashed it around.

What would have happened if the business owner intervened to try and stop the guy from stealing his property? Maybe the thief would have stabbed the business owner in the heat of passion or perhaps the business owner could have shot the robber for stealing his property????

I'm saddened to see people call this guy a"patriot" for stomping all over the constitution by taking the law into his own hands and commit a crime. We live in a country with laws that are voted in by the democratic majority, we as individuals are not free to choose when we follow the laws and when we don't.

Perhaps it's time for a civics lesson again.

The bottom line is the flag didn't need saving and the misguided lunatic that stole it was wrong and should be charged for stealing the flag.

I guess I just wonder, if these people could write it up on Craig's list, the new's crews could go out there, etc. etc.

The owner looked in a fairly reasonable state of mind,

How come nobody went to the man and just said,

Hey Sir, That is disrespectful, and for that matter illegal. Would you mind if you and I took that down please? I will look up the proper ways of displaying the flags to represent your patriotism to both countries, but what you are doing is wrong.

Somehow it almost seems like a made for TV movie.

Patriotism is learned behavior, I believe they stopped teaching it here along with some other things quite some time ago.

I was thinking the same thing as I watched that clip on TV tonight. Someone should have talked to the store owner first. Too bad some folks are uneasy about speaking to people they do not know, especially from other ethnic backgrounds, different countries, different religions, etc...

My grandmother told me how badly she was treated by people from other countries when she came to America. One particular ethnic group owned all the stores and had most of the jobs. If you didn't speak their language(not English, by the way), they wouldn't wait on you in the grocery store or let you apply for a job.

She was Hungarian, the group that controlled everything was Polish, the town was South Bend, Indiana, the factory was Studebaker wagon works, the year was 1902. Only the languages have changed. People in polarized groups still do not get along. That is sad. :(

Well said.... it's sometimes difficult to see the line in the grey area between true patriotism and unbridled nationalism.

They may have in your area, although maybe you are just missing it, but I KNOW they teach it in my town, and the lessons are hammered home both at school and more so in the houses in our community.

Directly behind my sons desk at school, (literally within arms reach) who is in 5th Grade, is the honor wall where pictures are posted of loved ones and special people. While many are mom's and dad's in uniform, there is more then our fair share of Memory photo's as well.

There are little things out there as well such as this

http://www.youtube.com/jp.swf?video...t=OEgsToPDskKb8uUqEaJ61AzdmJLOD4H1&autoplay=1

That will make most folks stop and think a minute.

Hopefully it will make someone think enough to go to a school and talk about honor, patriotism and sacrifice. And while we are there hopefully we talk about patience, understanding and working with folks to a positive solution.
