I just got back from my annual honda school update and they said that they laid off 25 percent and lost 40 percent of their dealers last year.

DMF - May I ask which dealership closed?

I'd like to clarify; the dealership has not closed, it's just that Agco has dropped them as a dealer. When I spoke to the dealer they were disapointed as well. I'm not sure what they'll do...look into other lines?

It is Devon Lane in Belchertown, MA.

Right - I wonder if it is because they are under-performing in sales maybe? I couldn't see any other reason for a manufacturer to close a dealer if it is moving product, regardless of how close others are positioned. Or if both are borderline, then maybe they are trying to save one so both don't fail. But you would think a brand would generally benefit from more presence, not less

Our closest Zetor dealer is 5km away, but he sucks: Leaves parts in his shop and calls one month later that he has the parts i ordered: That was because a friend of mine who worked there for a year (good mechanics dont stay long at that dealership) said that i was waiting on it and that they should call me.

The GOOD dealership is 20km away, those folks are correct, have good service and are friendly people too. However i get my parts from a dealer 500km away: I order directly from Czechia as parts are half the price there: the difference is enough to save big bucks even when i have to pay 25 euro for a mail shipment.

The situation in Holland is, that some people buy a new Renault (now Claas) or NH because of brand loyalty, but go to the Valtra dealership around the corner, for service. Only if major repair is needed, they find their way to the brand dealer. For older tractors like Ford x600 and x610 series, Deutz 6806 and similar, the Valtra dealer knows enough about them to repair them too.
Is it the habit in your part of the world, that only the red dealer touches the red tractor, and the green dealer touches the green ?

Around here, these days a lot of hobbyists are getting professional and establish brandless tractor repair shops, just like the Kwik-Fit concept you see in the car world. Maybe this dealer should not tie their hands to another brand dealership, but just take all brands.
Even brand dealers usually have to order parts. So theres no reason to stick to a particular brand.

Renze, Good to hear the situation from Europe.

Yes, here in North America, it is considerably different. Each shop is very locked in by being a representative of the brand. Sales-warranty service-parts. There exists very tight license agreements, franchise agreements and the like.

Of course, we have places that will work on any older color, but because the choices and array is so vast, dealerships that sell or service a particular color are quite locked into a narrower knowledge/parts base. It's understandable that it would be near impossible to be knowledgeable of very many.

If they lost their AGCO dealer stauts, it is because their sales were not up to snuff to get a MF dealership. Bronze, Siler, Gold, and Platinum. If they were they first two, that would be why. All based on sales, from parts, to new slaes, and shop work.

I'm sure it was based on sales, what else could it be? Just stinks knowing that 50+ years means nothing to people anymore....
