Anyone have any experience with a vertical wheelchair lift. Thinking of one for a family member. I need about 50" of lift to get up to the deck. Any help will be welcome. Thanks. Ed

My wife and I recently went on a train ride in the lancaster, pa area. The train place and a platform lift like those linked but it was a hand crank model, which would undoubtedly be much cheaper than those fancy ones listed.

Yes I know what you mean, but I shopped around quite a bit and wasn't able to find anything less expensive. Maybe you'll have better luck than me.

Another possibility may be a ramp, but to get 50" lift it would need to be an awful long ramp. at 1:12 slope you'd need a 50 ft ramp.

Yes 50'+ a 5x5 rest platform. They require one every 30'.

I once saw a lift that was a platform with 4 short pipes (one welded to each corner) that fit over 4 tall pipes. It had a manual drive mechanism consisting of an engine lift and a lot of gearing , manually powered by turning a large wheel (sort of a ships wheel). It was worked by a little old lady (she was maybe 4 feet tall) to get her rather robust son (who was in a wheelchair) in and out of the house. It was in the garage and took him from the ground floor up to the entrance, maybe 3.5 feet. It took very little effort to operate, but did take a while since the gearing was so low. I went to see if I could by it after the son had passed away but it was already gone.
