Hoping someone can help me out with my 6030 disc mower. I’ll try to make it short.

Hex shaft broke at gear box, I got it disassembled and there is about an inch piece of the shaft that broke off and it’s recessed in the gearbox.

It’s too far in there to weld anything to it for extraction. For obvious reasons can’t use heat. What are my options?

There is a plug on the backside of the gearbox opposite of where the hex shaft goes in. Can’t get much help from my dealer that plug shows replaceable. Can I remove that to access the hex gear for removal without having to go any deeper into the gearbox?

Any other ideas?

I’ll attach some pictures that may help.

Many yrs ago I supervised repairing a gearbox on a Vermeer 7040 disc cutter. I think one will need to remove gearbox from cutterbar to R&R hex shaft. One could possibly drill a hole in center of hex shaft the install threads in hole then use a slide hammer to maybe pull the hex shaft

I was hoping to be able to drill and tap it to do what you are talking about. I bought several different bits I can’t even drill that hardened steel.

I’ve about got the gearbox removed, just have to get the pulley off the gearbox shaft. Which has been tough so far…. I see in the book there is a pulley removal tool. Do I need that to get the pulley off? Any other way to remove it? I’m having a heck of a time trying to get it off.

I think I’m going to rebuilt the whole gearbox while I have the mower tore down that far.

It's been many yrs since I repaired that type gear box but IIRC one replaces bolts in pully hub to different holes in pully to aid in pully removal from the driveshaft.
