What do you do when your trusty companion is killed on your land by a neighbor's negligence?

It appears that my neighbors 46 year old daughter ran over and killed my brother-in-laws dog this morning and kept on driving. She has been told for years to slow down because of the kids, pets and livestock in the area.

His Dog "Rudy" was a member of the family and truly loved by all. He was huge, nearly the size of a small pony, great with kids and livestock, including the hens. He NEVER chased cars or tractors, although his size could make strangers feel uncomfortable.

Rudy was hit on my property, on the part where my neighbor has an easement for access. Another neighbor heard the collision and came out to see the daughter's car speeding up the road.

Ironically, I saw the daughter less than a mile from home on the side of the road looking under her car. I stopped and asked if she had car trouble or needed a ride... she seemed startled, quickly said no and got in and drove off. I did not know about Rudy until later that evening.

I just can't imagine anyone not stopping in a similar situation.

In a few hours, I plan on speaking with both Father and Daughter to hear what they have to say... it would have been so easy for her to have told me, if she in fact hit Rudy. As it was, Rudy laid in front of the house from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

I apoligize to TBN for venting...

First off, sorry about the dog. Actually I feel sorry for the dog, I hate it when a animal is killed, harmed, abused by someone else's ignorance or indifference. Of course abusing the perpetrator will never bring the dog back.

Sounds like it's time for some moguls to me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's awful, I understand mistakes, but I hate when someone is too cowardly to own up to it. A little integrity is all it takes to ask for forgiveness.

Yes sorry for your loss, Imagine if it was a child. How people can hit something and not know, is beyond me. But even the loss of a pet is very upsetting. Thanks for sharing ..

I am so sorry, I know how it is to loose a friend. I would give her a chance to admit to the accident and hopefully at least apologize for it. If not and you think you have enough proof, call the police and get them involved. Not that any of this will bring Rudy back, but maybe she might be more careful from here on out.

My thoughts go out for you and your family,

Gary
