Ventilation on Shipping Container used for Storage

All,
I just got my 'new' tractor yesterday (YM2210 from RCO) after reading a lot on this forum - thanks! I have also ordered my 20' seafreight shipping container and it will arrive on Saturday to lock this new baby in. I wanted a secure place as we will not live on the property.

In general I am worried about ventilation - with the diesel tractor, possible other gas canisters and combined with the Texas heat it will quickly make a dangerous environment. I have been reading a lot about the ventilation but have not seen pictures of what people have actually use to ventilate. Do you have an active ventilation, i.e. solar powered 12V fans? How about the turbine ones one can see on houses?

Can you post/send me pictures of your ventilation on your containers?

I have property in Caldwell county just outside of Lockhart that I'm not living on currently and I just have my Kubota tractor parked out in a wooded area that can't be seen from the road and covered with one of those big green tarps from Harbor Freight. I of course don't leave the keys in it but to discourage thieves further I pull out the starter fuse and hide that in my 20' shipping container I also have out on the property. I also put generic Lojack type GPS tracking system warning stickers on the tractor.

My 20' shipping container is too small to contain my tractor, but I use it for storing lots of other things out there. I had the guy I bought it from weld a hockey-puck style round lock hasp on the doors. I also put "DANGER, explosive gasses" and DOT explosive stickers on the outside of the container to make a thief think twice about cutting into it with a torch or cutter. These things already come with vents up in the corners, theres no need to add extra vents, even in the summer, if you store it under shade. You can add one of those passive whirlybird attic vents if you want but I think that just adds more opportunity for water and pests to get in.

The best thing I've done to secure the tractor was buy an inland marine policy for it. Only cost me $70/year for a $20k tractor through Texas Farm Bureau. TFB will also insure your separate rural property for liability and general personal property loss under your homeowners insurance, even if the primary residence being insured is many miles away from your rural property.
