I am new to this tractor stuff so this might be a dumb question. I have a TC25D and the operator's manual says the fuel cap is a vented-type. When I take the cap off a gust of air/pressure is released. What is a vented-type fuel cap, and should it be doing this?

Could this be causing the problem I have had twice where my tractor runs out of fuel, but the fuel gage shows a quarter and a half of fuel in the full tank? My dealer is going to come out and look at this problem in the next week.

Thanks for all your help

Computerboy,

Is it pressure realesed or air rushing in? Could it be that the machine is some how building a vacuum up inside the tank and you realese when you open the cap?

I recall that on some cars if you replace the gas cap with a non venting cap (and it is supposed to be a vented cap) you can get similar behaviour.

Also my policy is to never go below 1/4 tank on any car, truck or tractor I own. Its easier on the fuel pump.

My two cents....
