Illinois does not issue motor vehicle titles for tractors according to the dealer I bought my JD from. All I have to prove ownership is the bill of sale.

What does your state do and what do you have to prove it really is yours?

Dan, I suppose some states may issue titles, but just off hand I don't know of any that do. The bill of sale is all I ever had in Texas.

I have purchased a 2003 Jeep (new) and several motorcycles over the years and since it was paid for in full I got the MSO. The first new tractor I purchased was a 750 John Deere back in 1987 and got something like a MSO although it was called something else. I think it was called an Equipment Statement of Origin, but since GA doesn't title tractors it went in the file cabinet folder and was given to the person I sold it to back in 1993.

According to my local dealer here in Michigan, only a Bill of Sale is needed.
