Veggi Oil as fuel

I don't know about the french fry oil, but the WASTE oil has me interested. I generate a lot of waste oil here on the farm. I wonder if my Ford diesel will run on it. To that end, I just e-mailed Greasecar about that application. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

How long do you think it will take before the state is contacting you looking for road tax on the vegetable oil that you are using for fuel? This was the comment that was made this afternoon by a friend that saw the news blurb on this new fuel source on the noontime news. I can see a savings, but the state will see it as needing to have a separate tax on the fuel. They quoted the cost at $800 for the system and $600 for the installation. Claim that the savings in fuel will pay for the unit in one year. They did say that you still have to start the engine on diesel and after it is running, then you make the switch to the vegetable oil.....

I'm sure they will try to find a way to get the tax.

I remember the Veggie Van that was using recycled vegetable oil but they were refining the oil for use. More labor and more cost but you didn't have to start on diesel to preheat the vegetable oil.

I think this new system is better only because you don't have to go through a refining process. Anyone can pour oil in the tank so more people are likely to want to use it.

If this catches on, fast food joints will be selling that oil instead of paying to have it hauled off.
