I sure would hate to chase a water leak in that trench.

Amen to that. My friend just had a septic problem, turned out they put the electric service in the same trench with one of the septic distribution lines. Where's the building inspector when all this is going on. They stop you from using the wrong color paint but don't notice the house is wired backwards.

When you run water under a driveway or roadway, you'll probably have to increase the depth you bury the pipe. Continual traffic (foot, vehicle, etc) drives the frost deeper into the ground- increasing the chance of frozen pipes. Somebody said 6 ft- can't go wrong with that. In central maine- we use 5 ft.
Sometimes people use foam tubes to further insulate their water pipe if they are concerned. Someone told me once an inch of foam = a foot of dirt. I wouldn't trust that. I use the foam tube for overkill!

we use 200 psi continuous roll water lines here...can get as long of run as necessary. We use compression brass fittings ($100.00 / conector) at any joints. mines been in 16 years, no leaks.....zero.

I check meter every year for movement on dials when water is shut off.

True, fixing it would suck, but water needs to be 4-5 feet deep here in north Idaho. its just the way it is
