Using tilt over 4'x8' as a light dump trailer

Has anyone tried it?

I am thinking about locating a used 4'x8' or larger tilt over trailer, basically a 4 wheeler trailer, putting a solid deck and sides on it then using it to move 2/3rds or so of a yard of dirt at a time. Some of these trailers have 3,000 or 3,500 pound axles.

Haven't tried it. Have such a trailer. Thinking about it, you would have to have a hydraulic dump....there will be many occasions when a manual pull pin will be too bound up to work...and/or load balance wrong and take lots of work to get it right to dump. Then, when it does tilt, you will have to drive vehicle forward to dump all the material because back end hits the ground.

Suggest you look into a load handler pickup bed unloader.

Used one that way for quite a few loads of dirt and rock, DON"T over load.

The biggest problem I see is the pivot point is so far forward that it will be hard to get all the material off the trailer without pulling forward.

Thanks guys. I am searching for an older tilt over trailer with the heaviest axle I can find. But I do not have any plans to over load it. I was thinking that I would put one foot sides on a 4x8 which would allow a little over a yard capacity for light materials and load it 2/3rds with dirt, rocks, etc.
