Using BX23 to move an 18 footer boat!

Hi folks,

Long time no talk. What do you think using my BX23 to move a 2350 LBS boat around the yard using the existing 3pt hitch? Am I pushing the limit here? All opinions are welcome! Thank you for reading.

I moved my 8000 lb travel trailer a few times with my Case subcompact. It was pushing it, but based on that, I'd say you'll be fine with your boat. Just make sure you hook up a check chain so the hitch won't lift up if you stop the tractor quickly and the boat trailer tries to keep going.

The safety chains will always be hooked every time I go to use it but thank you for reminding though.

Knowing that you have pushed 8000 lb makes me feel better though

Just to be clear, by check chain, I meant a chain that goes from where your 3 pt hitch setup attaches to the top link, and down to the draw bar (with the hole in it for a clevis hook, ball hitch, etc.). That way, the entire 3 pt setup can't lift up when you don't want it to.

I am sure the safety police will be around to tell you all you need to know. Till then, remember that stopping your trailer is much more important than starting it! If your area is relatively flat and you keep your head in the game and watch your speed, you should be fine. When I hook a big load to anything, I like to test my brakes in a few different circumstances to get a feel for stopping power and distance. Don't try to take a 3,000 pound trailer down an 18% grade with a 500 pound tractor.

I had asked a similar question about launching my 20' boat which weighs around 3500lbs. This site said no problem for BX24.

Based on owning it for a while and reading the manual which states something like max of 1500lbs towing I think I was given bad advice.

I don't think there is a chance in h*ll the BX24 could pull the boat out the water. I think I'd toast the transmission if I tried.

With your 2300lb 18' you'd probably be fine.

Many years ago I used to use a 8hp Ariens rider to tow around a 3064# Corvette. Don't think I'd try that today.
