It looks like the seal for the PTO shaft is a 38x58x11 TC. It can be purchased through Hoye or Fredricks (or some of the other grey market parts suppliers). You can also try online search engines or auction sites for "38 58 11 seal" and should get several options, but ensure that you look for the double lip seal ("TC" designation). You might also check locally through a company/shop that repairs hydraulic cylinders as they may be able to order it or point you to another company that can.

There could be several contributing factors (one or a combination of several) to your brake issues such as wear (adjustment or new parts needed) or leaking seals allowing hydraulic/transmission oil into the brake housings.

Hello again,

you are a walking 'repair manual encyclopedia' :) ...I will look on the HOYE website as they appear to have quite a selection of parts.

Thanks again

No worries Careyo63...yeap I noticed that his advert had been removed...

I will have to get into the brakes to see what the issue is..it sounds like there could be either rust or dirt in there that causes a grumbling/grinding sound...Thanks also to normde2001 for interest in my brakes problem...I will be going back to the acreage next week sometime and will have a look at things.

BTW gentlemen (and ladies!!) I will have some further questions regarding a 1982 JCB 3D 1700....again this machine needs some TLC and the immediate issue that I have is...

The previous owner replaced the Torque converter and some other parts in the gearbox..after a part disintegrated...after the repair the machine worked fine for a little while and then he found that the 'Shuttle' only works in reverse and does not move forward!!..

I do not particularly want to take the shuttle box apart if I can help it...that is if there is an external adjustment that could solve the problem.....
any suggestions??:mur:

Thanks

To "cut to the chase", does your tractor have an "overrunning clutch"? Usually the only time anyone complains about brakes on a compact gray market tractor is when the mower keeps pushing them when trying to stop.

No...the clutch disengages very well when I press the pedal..
The brakes however need a definite heavy and strong right foot action to bring it to a stop....and there is a juddering and groaning when they are activated....probably dirt or rust on the inner lining..something the a very fine 'wet & dry' sanding wouldn't clear

There's another issue here - the way these transmissions are designed, depressing the clutch doesn't decouple the inertia of a big mower from continuing to drive the rear wheels. If you think fast enough you can yank the pto lever out of gear to disengage it before this inertia pushes you through the fence or barn.

The solution is to add an 'overrun clutch' onto the pto output shaft. This is really a ratchet; its operation is the same as the clicking you hear when a bicycle is coasting.

Also - the overrun clutch is different from an overload clutch that is adjusted to slip only when the mower hits something solid.

I do not have anything connected to the PTO so there wouldn't be any inertia over-run....
Whilst we are on the PTO subject, would you know id there is a Back-hoe attachment that is available for this tractor? I could use one!!

Might want to check with Fredricks here's a 1610 Grey market Owners Manual in English! Have to call out the BS> for no Manual on Greys.

Yeap, saw the advert.
Just been looking at the HOYE website and it is a font of information and parts...I will shell out for one of their manuals.
Their FAQ is also very informative :eek:ptimist:

Don't expect too much out of the manual. There are no OEM user or repair manuals in English for gray market tractors. All are written by 3rd party users.
