Backhoe Useing backhoe on a steep hill

If I was excavating on a 40 degree hill,the last thing I'd be worried about is if the engines getting oil lol..I'd be afraid of gravity having its way with me and my machine,I think a few shovels and picks and some young strong help would be safer...

Waiting for the replace the engine light to come on is sheer foolishness, assuming you were to even see it before catastrophic failure were to have occurred.

Thank you all for your comments and ideas. I just called dealer and he said that about 15 degrees is the limit. I'm going to have the contractor do it with his mini excavator.

A 6 - 12 pitch roof is 26.6 incline degrees. A 12 - 12 pitch roof is 45 degrees. Walking up a 6 - 12 is hard, walking up a 12 - 12 pitch roof is impossible. Just me, but i don't think I would operate a tractor on a 40 degree incline even if I was not using a backhoe.

Angle guide attached. You could print it on transparent plastic, then go out and check your hill. Just align the edge with a known vertical or horizontal and see where your hill matches a line.

I was wrong, it's not 40 degrees. Thanks for the angle guide bcp, I used my magnetic angle locator and took a look at it. It's more like 25-30 degrees.

Someone on here mentioned making a terrace and that's what the contractor with the mini excavator can do. My tractor is around 20 ft long and the excavator is short. Also his boom and stick are longer than mine.

After talking to the dealer I'm not going to operate my tractor at more than 15 degrees.
