Used price for 425 AWS and 60\" deck

Wondering if this is a good deal. Just drove a 425 AWS w/ 60" deck the other night. Tractor is in excellent condition (7 yrs old). It has the Kaw engine w/ only 272 hours. Body, deck and engine are spottless. The guy wants $5500 for the tractor... I'm new to this so any help would be appreciated.

Hard to say, but I would first go to a dealer (or several) and check on newer 425's and, with the expectation that new models will come out before Spring, you could maybe get a very good deal on a newer 425 with fewer hours for near the same money. At least check it out, then you will personally know the facts. No one can guess what those 275 hours have seen. As with all used equipment, someone decided they didn't want it anymore. The reason can be anyone's guess.

Do you need the AWS? Roeder's in Iowa has almost new low hour 425s in the $6000 area. They can be shipped.

I think the AWS will help to a certain degree... I have very steep hills to mow. I think the AWS adds about $1000 to the price.

AWS is nice until you want to put a loader on it. Not a bad deal though. I have seen a 1994 2-wheel steer 425 with over 300 hours 54" mower go for $5,500!!! What about 3-pt hitch?

No 3pt on the 425, but I've kinda switched gears since visiting my new house again. It seem the hills are a bit more than I remembered, and the driveway is over 1000 ft. long. I just came back from the local Deere dealer and drove a 95 870 28hp tractor w/ FEL and 72 in mmm. He wants 12,500 for it. It's quite a machine and I could definitely justify needing it on the 7.5 acres of hill.

This past spring I bought a '94 870 with 540 hours, 440 FEL and 8B backhoe for about $15000. I have turf tires and have had some problems with getting flats on the front. I've put nearly 100 hours on the tractor myself. Most of the hours have been on the backhoe with the box blade coming in a close second. I've used my 6 foot rotary cutter a couple of times, including some serious brush removal. I've had some frustrations with the post hole digger, but that's from soil conditions, not the tractor. The implement that I've spent the least time with is an 8 foot chain harrow.

I have a 68 inch 3ph snowblower with zero hours on it. It should be quite a time saver this winter.

I'm very happy with the 870. I have a 4 acre lot on three steeply separated terraces. The 870 has had no problem going up and down the steep ramps from level to level.
