How do you guys dispose of your used oil? I was quoted a price of $50.00 to take my oil. They used to take it for free.

I bring mine to the local Advanced Auto parts store. They have a little book you log how many gallons your brought in. Very easy and free to do.

Wally world takes it back, Any place that sells oil is required to take it back.........

Why take it anywhere? Use it to lube rusted bolts, etc. There are are many other uses, some of which shouldn't be discussed openly.

I store my used oil in 5 gallon plastic pails with a screw on cap. When I get 40 or more gallons I drop them off at a friends auto shop. He uses it in his waste oil furnace for heat.

Our local recycling (dump) has large drum with filter screen. Takes all you have, free. They heat with it.

I burn most of it to start brush piles but every local recycling center here takes it for free.

our county has free household hazardous waste drop off events during the year, they take oil in 5 gallon pails and old filters too.

the local quickee lube place used to take it for free but are refusing now that they have to pay for dispoal

I give mine to various places with waste oil burners. They aren't supposed to burn hydraulic fluid though. :shhh:

I put some in sawdust/planer chips and use it to start fires in my wood stoves...

I've mixed quite a bit of it 50/50 with diesel, filtered it, and burned it in my diesels in the summer too...

Me too George. Mine all gets burned to heat a shop.

I do the same with mine. A friend who owns a machine shop has a couple waste oil furnaces.

He gave me a 55 gallon drum and when I get it about 3/4 full, I take it down to him. Got it on a narrow pallet and use my tractor to get it on the bed of my truck. Very easy and hassle free.

And, yes, I've heard of places giving people the dickens of a time to get rid of their used motor oil. I am totally against that, and anyone that charges or refuses motor oil (if they sell it, use it, etc) should be fined! This is the exact reason it ends up in streams, sewers, lakes, oceans, etc!

I'm not some green hippie or anything, but at the end of the day, the government wants us to do the right thing and recycle it, then provide the resources to do so, and anyone failing not to accept it, should be fined.

I save some for a guy from out of state who has a camp 3/4 miler down the road. He is unable to get a campfire started without something to help. The rest goes to the repair shop for their heater. No charge for disposal

I have also heard of people using it as bar & chain oil in their saws. It makes a gawdawful mess though, so I don't use it (anymore).

Bingo.

I save used oil in emptied oil containers and pour it on brush piles to be burned whether needed or not.

All of the county governments around here have a location where they accept used motor oil and other hazardous waste. Some of our taxes fund it.

'bout the same here. Used to take it to the transfer station when they didn't charge for recycling. Now that they do it goes to a local auto shop where they burn it in their heater.

Waste Management picks it up curbside at no additional charge here but where many changed their own oil it is rare to see any put out these days...
