Need the feedback of the other JD owning TBN members about this subject. Late this afternoon I was using a gas power washer to clean the hard clay off my 420 loader, one of the decals on the right mast arm began to peel off. When I finished the cleaning job I looked at the decal and could see another decal underneath it. That second decal had lots of green paint overspray and it was scraped up also. Peeling back the decal on the left mast arm revealed another decal underneath it, again with overspray and scrapes.

I took delivery of the JD and loader 14 months ago, and they were sold to me as new. The serial number of the loader matches the number on the sales contract and JD Credit papers. However, I'm at a loss to understand why the loader arms have two warning decals placed atop each other.

On the right mast, the top decal has the correct decal number for the 420 loader and the one under it has the number for a 430 loader. I can understand having the wrong decal and covering it up with the correct one, but the paint overspray and scrapes.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I am going to contact JD Welland Works in Ontario, Canada, and find out when my loader was manufactured and where it was delivered to originally. Has anyone else experienced this situation?

Those things are shipped on a pallet truck freight and moved around alot if stored..You might be correct, but it could have just been repainted(poor job at that) because of shipping damage,scrapes,etc..Tractor equipment is not like the auto bussiness..Hope this helps..

I agree with JDdude about the possible cause of the over paint, but would not be happy with the cover-up. Now, if it is really a 430 loader, then you are indeed the winner. First, I would have a friendly chat with the salesman after talking to the dealer, or talk to them together. They should be able to come up with the trace of what happened with that serial number. Possibly the shop set-up crew covered it up, for whatever reason. I would think they would have had to re-order the decals though. But, I hope you end up with a 430 loader, and you get some good satisfaction from the dealer.
PS - for hard clay, I soak it off with a hose and do not risk blasting it off with a power washer. I think the PW's are much to hard on equipment, unless bare metal is the goal. Just an opinion though.

There are a number of less than nefarious reasons something like this might have happened. It could have been simply mislabled by a worker at the manufacturing facility who, upon realizing his error, attempted to scrape it off and damaged the paint.

At that point, me might have given up removing the decal for fear of even more damage to the paint and simply repainted the scraped area near the decal and then affixed the proper decal over the one affixed in error.

It does sound like a poor job in any event. The proper way to do it would have been to remove the decals with either a heat gun or eraser wheel first, then affix new decals. At this point, assuming this is the case, I would think that having it redone in that proper manner would be appropriate. I'd think that you might want to suggest to the dealership that they consider farming out the work to an auto body shop if they're not set up to do it properly.

Good luck with the resolution. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I hate to say it, but all Deere loaders are shipped with those two decals against the pallet, with no padding, many have bitched, but change is slow!
