I am looking at two used Kubota BX2200 at local dealers who deal in used equipment or trades. They are similiarly priced, but one has 200 hours and the other has 496 hours. Both are for sale used

The 496 hour machine has been thoroughly tested, all fluids and filters just changed, etc. and it seems to work fine. Nothing special has been done to the 200 hour machine, but it seems to work fine too.

My question is, how important is the total hours on this model? I like the fact that all the service has been done on the 496 hour machine, but am worried that it has more hours than the other machine.

Less than 500 hours is not very many hours. I would not be scared of a tractor with 500 hours that has been properly maintained. What is the price difference in the two machines.

I had a bx 2200 before trading for a b2620, several things I would ask the dealer about.

1. Does this year have the problem with the gas tank leaking? I had a problem with my tank where the sending unit went into the tank, this was a real pain to fix, you had to take the back section off of the tractor to get at it. (at least I did)

2. Make sure the steering is tight. Had issues with my tractor where it had a lot of play in the steering. This was a warranty issue, I believe something to do with the seals.

3. Hoses weren't the best in the world, I had to replace the ones next to the fel, which wasn't a problem, but the one from the steering column to the rear of the tractor was alot harder.

While I had those issues, I would still recommend the BX2200, it was a really good small tractor to use, mowed a lot of grass and moved a lot of snow during the winter with it.

I agree with everyone here...Maintance is the key...If the 50 hour service wasn't done you may be asking for problems at 200+ hours. My bx is at 200 hours. It has been somewhat over maintained, but it still runs like the day I bought it.

Curious as to the difference in price for the 2.

I would second Bill's advice posted above. I actually did the same thing as he did, I owned a BX 2200 for 9 years and 1257 hours before I traded for a B2620. The fuel sending unit, power steering hoses, and seals in the steering pistons are all items to inquire about. I had to replace the sending unit, all four ps hoses, and the piston was going to have to be repacked when I traded mine.

Apart from those issues, 1257 hours, no other problems, and I really hated to see it go! I would not worry about the hours on the two you are looking at, just ask whether or not the items mentioned have been dealt with.

Don

The 496 hour bx2200 is $9000 (they wanted $9500), and the 200 hour bx2200 is $8500 (they were asking $9500). They are from two different dealers in New England area. Both have 60 inch mowing deck and a front loader.

Turns out I was able to speak directly with the prior owner of the 200 hour machine who owned it since day 1, and did all maintenance on it, and there have been no issues. So given that, I'm going with the lower hour machine, since I know more of the history, not to mention a slighly lower price :).

Thanks for all your advice!

I wouldn't worry about it as I know of a customers tractor that had 3500 plus hours on it three years ago and he is still using it in his landscaping business.
