Where are you located? I'd guess $2500-$4000 depending on the loader.
JD loader models that will fit are 145,175,48 & 245.

How about the 146, too?

My vote is the JD 175. Try tractorhouse or machinefinders

My neighbor's got a 245SL on his 2640. Now, that's a LOADER! :D

I have one on my JD 2030, might be a little too big for a 2240

It is a pretty big loader... he put on some real big front tires and rims to handle the added weight!

Not sure of the difference in tractor size/frame size between the 40 series, either.

Come to think of it, though - he was using a 2240 (50hp) on a JD 336 baler and using his 2640 to work a big round baler - in the same hay field.

The 2640 was definitely a bigger machine.

Basically the frame sizes are the same. Of the 2 tractors you mentioned the 2240 is just shorter wheelbase because it has a 3 cyl engine vs a 4 cyl engine in the 2640

I would go with the lightest loader with the shortest frame. meaning the load is carrier closer to the tractor. you might have trouble reversing or spin a bit with a big loader on your tractor. Not to turn you from green paint but westendorf has some very good loaders probably a bit heavy for that tractor. Bushhog something like a 2425 or 2426 is a decent low end loader, fairly cheap to buy 1500-2000 or so and can bolt to the side rails and front end.
