Used 5300 vs New 5303?

I have a choice between a used 5300 (1100 hrs 2wd, super clean, well mantained) for $14000 or the new 5303 that I have not seen yet but from the JD wed site and the post from earlier this month just a "few" thousand more and I would have a new tractor with the same power. Also, goes anyone know about the attachments for this new JD? Does the 5303 use the same hookups as the other 5000 series JD's or is this one the same in "number" only?

Is this with the loader?

Basically two things you have to consider. #1 Can you live with a non-synchro transmission? #2 If you use a loader you can only get one remote behind. Without the loader you can have two.

Overall there are small cosmetic differences. With exception of the non-sychro transmission the "guts" are the same. Same hydraulics, engine, loader cap., etc.

As far as implements go you can run anything with the 5303 that you run with the 5300. If you can live without the two items above this is an incredible value for this tractor. I could have gotten that 5303 with a loader for $16,400.

Thanks for the information. I do not want a "white elephant". For now, I am interested in the FEL only. The 14K 5300 is for the tractor only. Today (busy day) I did not get a chance to call my local dealer, but I agree if I could get a new 5303 and a FEL for ~16K it will be hard to pass up. What attachments would need more than 2 connections? How many can a "normal" 5XXX tractor have? Questions and more questions.....Landry

The 5303 is outstanding value for a Turbo diesel Utility tractor... lots and lots of tractor for your dollar... personally for a few thousand more... I'd buy new, and have the peace of mind two year warranty... (coupled with super low finance rates)

As I told Cowboydoc... you could buy this 5303, use it for a few years... and more than likely get every dollar back upon trade up or outright sale...

Don't let a non-synchro tranny scare you away... they have been around since God was a kid... bullet proof, virtually trouble free units... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Unless you are doing alot of farming you won't need the two outlets. As far as attachments that need more than two connections my balers, planter, mower conditioner, etc. What will you be doing with your tractor? On my 5420 that I'm getting it will have five remotes. Two mid-mount for the loader and three in the back for implements.

John Miller is exactly right though and that is one heck of a deal for a tractor. The engine, tranmission, and drivetrain are exactly what you would get with a 5320. It's a heck of a deal for a tractor that size. 65 turbocharged horses is alot of power for most most guys.

Lots of people must feel the same way. Two of my local dealer's say when any 5103, 5203 or 5303 JD hits the ground, they have sold within days. I wanted to see one but none in stock (in fact, none in the whole state of Louisiana according to one salesman). The other salesman did say however the front end was not as strong as the the '05 or '20 series and the loader (a 510?) for the 5303 was a special light duty model just for this tractor. I do not believe he "knew" all the facts about this 5303 model's front end and loader, but what he did know is a saleman cannot sell what he does not have in stock. He was quick to point out his company had several used "low hour" 5320's on hand, and their front ends were strong enough for any FEL I wanted. You just have to love salesman. The 5320's were used by the state of Louisiana (how hard?) for 1 year, cost $15500 (non syro trans and two ports, 300 to 400 hrs). My main use of the tractor will be "bush-hogging", dragging a small set of "choppers" and dirt box work. The FEL is a "want" more than gotta have, but I know there are lots of times moving dirt with it would be great. Is $14000 and 1100 hrs 5300 with a known history better or worse than $15500 and low hrs 5320 with unknown use or abuse? Wait to see a 5303 in person (one is on the way in 2-3 weeks)? I'm glad there is no big time limit here or I would be in trouble.....Landry

Personally for what you want to do I'd wait and get myself a brand new tractor. You never know where one has been and for the same money and same tranny I'd rather have a new tractor. Your dealer is right about the loader, it isn't as heavy duty as the other one but it's not because the tractor can't handle it's because deere made it that way as it is also a thousand or better cheaper than the loader for the regular 5000 series. Still lifts over a ton though.
