F-NH 3930
Sigh. I'm still not enjoying looking for a tractor! So... In a very close price range I've been offered a Ford/NH 3930 (~1100 hours, VG condition, 4WD, synchro on the gears) with cheap implements or a new Kubota MX5000SU (2WD) with nice implements. And, you know... I'm leaning towards the 3930.

Yes, I do SO want the warranty and all but, wow, the 3930 is one heck of a tractor! Still... If I get the 3930 then I need to buy a mower for around the house. Drat!

And then there are the questions I should maybe ask elsewhere (implements)... A 2 bottom plow and 6' disc on a 3930 4wd? Or a 6' tiller on the Kub? A 6' Woods HSS72 Rotary Cutter (Kub) or a 6' International Bush Hog (NH)? Seriously, the implements offered on the Kub are SO much better... But the NH is a ridiculously better tractor... Except it's used and not under warranty...

Oh! If only the decision were just, magically, made for me! And the combination of tractor and implements were perfect! Oh! Oh!

So... Suggestions? Keep looking but make a non-binding offer on the NH sounds like a good one to me. And you?

thx,
c

If I were you, I'd go with the 3930. It is a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. That 3930 is SO much more tractor.

I am not familiar with plowing or discing. My gut reaction is that the 3930 could handle another bottom to the plow and a couple more feet of disc. I have heard it said that you need between 10-15 horsepower per plow bottom.

My feelings, there, too (another bottom, etc). And, again, I agree that it's more of a tractor. But... Warranties! And then... I'm almost ashamed to ask this, but is the 3930 maybe a little too big? Oh, no, that's not possible! Ha!

And I've got to talk the dealer into getting me bigger and better implements...

But I suppose I'm ready. I just need the deal to be a bit sweeter...

There is no such thing as too big! Get that thought out of your mind.

Well... I'll be out plowing the drive at 6:30AM and it's awfully hard to see around that big bucket... I'll have to work out other lights, at the very least!

I think the 3930 is the perfect size for 40 acres. It's 1500-1800 lbs. heavier than the Kubota, and 4wd as well. The 3930's often dyno out greater than 45 PTO HP (this comes from a Deere dealer).
