Has anybody thought to use the area on the PT425 (and maybe other PTs) on the front of the machine below the lift arms and between the lift cylinders? Thoughts come to mind of putting a whinch there or a two inch receiver.

Bob- You could mount your oil cooler there and tie it into the pto return line and then build a carry all bed like I did :D Or you could mount the oil cooler on top of the lift arms. That would make it easier to tie into the pto return.

I added a tow hook to mine. Tow hook picture here.

Also note the size and shape of the front shelf on my 2001 year PT425. I noticed PJ's has a different shape. I think this is due in part to the higher lift height that his has. I think the current 422 chassis is the same as my 2001 year PT425.

Beechwood, thanks for the suggestion. Do you think the oil cooler would be a little too exposed to damage there as you push into dirt or whatever? Putting it on the arms might work. You could add an extra cooler on top of the arms to aid cooling when mowing.

Moss, I remember your tow hook. Good idea. Does it get dirt pushed up in it. If I put a 2 inch receiver there, I wonder if it would fill up with dirt?

I'd keep all hydraulic cooling at the rear of the units.;)

Yes, the tow hook gets debris in it, especially after a long session of brush hogging. For that matter, the entire front of the unit gets several inches of debris on it after brush hogging. It cleans out easily with the leaf blower. As far as dirt, though, I rarely get into that shelf.

Maybe I could mount a tool box there. Just thinking out loud. I probably have enough tool boxes on the PT.

Geez, Bob, your machine already looks like it is outfitted for an African Safari... :D

Seriously, are you still using that roof storage rack filled with all kinds of emergency equipment/tools?

Yes. I tend to keep the less used stuff in the roof rack. Mostly vehicle recovery stuff.

I second the use of MR's tow hook. Probably one of the best add-ons I've done, probably becuase I trailer it alot and the hook is the best place to hook the 2 front tie-downs.

That's the main reason I added mine there; towing the tractor on a trailer. It is the perfect place to chain it down. If I want to tow something with the tractor, I use the rear hitch. I just don't like hooking stuff up under there with the FEL arms raised, so I make it a practice not to unless absolutely necessary, which hasn't occurred yet. :)

I like the tow hook and have seriously considered it. I actaully made a plate to weld there, but I don't have the courage to weld on the PT. However, maybe there is an even better thing to put there. I really like the two inch reciever, but I think it would be packed with dirt and be hard to clean out. Does anybody else have suggestions?

As I said, I don't like to get under a raised FEL for any reason, and if you have any implement on the front end, that makes it even more dangerous with the added weight and leverage it would have pulling down on you.

And yes, it would definately get packed with dirt and mowing debris. You'd have to keep a plug in it at all times when not in use, I would think, unless you made it open in the rear so a power washer could get in there and blow the debris through.
