US Hwy 1 how things have changed

I've found that if I pay attention to my own driving rather than what others are doing, I'm a lot safer to share the road with.
Then again I can't post and chew gum at the same time...

Going down the interstate at 70-80mph, before pulling out to pass you better make sure the car coming from way back isn’t doing 100mph. Had one fly by the other morning that I don’t know how it didn’t wipe out multiple vehicles as it weaved in and out near 100 mph.
You gotta be watching others.

I’m also surprised how many times I see a cop in medium while 1/2 mile away, and people will fly by and won’t see the cop until they are in front of it, then they slam on the brakes. I get a chuckle out of it when they get lite up.

I drive with the attitude "If you can't pay the fine, obey the sign." When I go past an officer I might slow to respect that he's there, but I don't go fast enough so that I worry about getting stopped. I paid enough fines back in my younger days.

There have been many times that I thought about how amazed my father would have been if he ever saw a cell phone. He passed away in 1986. He would have thought "What a gift and What a tool." The ability to contact our family or get help is fantastic. It makes me sad that such a wonderful tool has been turned into a toy - for games and enterainment. It is like our life was empty and we have to have a phone to fill it. Terrific tool, now a tool and marketing outlet. I know texting is against the law in some places. I have seen this many time. Never seen someone being pulled over for it. I was ran off the road to avoid a lady texting hitting me. She did stop and apoligize - I only said "That is ok, hope there is a lesson here." My wife told me "OK, I've had enough "off roading" for today. we were in our Jeep Wrangler.
It's over a $1000 fine plus loss of points if caught texting or even touching a phone here. Not even allowed to have the screen where the driver can see it.
There are phone detecting cameras set up everywhere now so if you are caught you bloody well deserve it. YET, we still see some texting and wandering over the road believe it or not.
It is OK to use a handsfree device. My vehicles have inbuilt screens so no need to touch the phone at all.

Most states here have laws prohibiting use of any electronic device by the driver, but I guess most people figure the odds are against getting caught. Not sure what the fines are, probably not even close to $1000. Probably should be, might actually be a deterrent, or at least a deterrent to doing it a second time.

Judging by the number of photos posted in the hauling/towing something wrong thread, it seems like a lot of TBNers are guilty of that...I would think taking a picture while driving is probably more dangerous than a simple phone conversation.
