So the prospect of second inexpensive used tractor is doable. However, I have no idea what I should be looking at, as I am new to this. How many hours are too many? What make and models would fit what I'm trying to do? would not need an FEL on it. How much horsepower should I be looking at? I am most familiar with Kubotas.

Okay, our dealer offered us $12,176.00 for our 2007 B7800 (30 hrs) with the loader. I think we are getting a bad deal and should probably shop around some more.

Maybe I am wrong about what the dealer is offering us, but if we accept that is a 40% depreciation for 30 hours, that seems excessive.

So this reinforces the two tractor option, thanks for mentioning it guys.

I just had a Kubota dealer tell me they deprciate 30% right off the lot. But no more depreciation really happens from then till 3-5 yrs old depending on the condition.

Keep it 10 or 15 years...or longer and take care of it, there's a good chance you'll get about what you paid for it. In inflated dollars, of course.

Aaron, for a diesel Ag tractor, I'd try to stay on the shady side of 3500 hours if at all possible. Overhaul becomes a factor past 5000 hours. A tractor advertised with an overhauled engine may seem like a deal, but the quality of the OH depends on the person doing it.

I think you'd want a utility tractor of 50 to 75HP. Deere, Ford (NH), IH, MF less than 20 years old and less than 3000 hours would be a place to start.

Thanks for the advice, that's what we're going to do. We are keeping the B7800 and we will just be patient and wait for a used MX 5000/5001 of L4400 or similar. Thanks for all the advice.
