Upgrading to L39 or L48?

The L-39 can realistically be transported behind a 3/4-1 ton pickup. I hauled mine around behind an F-350 with a 12K trailer. An M-59 is going to require something more substantial, like a gooseneck on a one-ton, dually, etc.

At the M59's price, it would be impossible for me to imagine buying one over a lightly used full size.

Builder, reason for buying m59 over a used full size are these - HST, maintenance, having a 3 point and pto (maybe some full size have these, but I haven't seen it) and the fact that I've yet to come across a job that I need doing which the m59 won't do. Which is not to say that I don't see the point of a full size, just saying I don't need that much more that 4k lift or a 12 foot hoe.
