Around here, with our salty roads and ocean air, that's the type of body that gets installed when the pickup box rots away. The design and build vary from basic backwoods rough-sawn lumber to sophisticated steel or even aluminum. Not used to seeing that on a brand new chassis.
I'm with you, it just looks like a flat bed with side boards...Don’t know what’s special about the truck. Flatbeds have been around forever. It should be possible to order a cab and chassis unit. That is done for many 3500’s that are used for work purposes.
Where I grew up a lot of ranchers had flat beds on their pickups. Even the new ones.
The problem with a flat bed or this folding side flat bed is that it's higher than the floor of a regular bed. So you have to lift all your stuff higher. It's ironic that they show it with a heavy dual sport KTM 1190 in the back. It's a bear to get a big bike like that up into a high bed. Note that they don't show the set of ramps that they used to get it in there.
