What is the GPM and pressure you have going to the cylinder, and are you using a log splitter valve? Is that a 4, 5 or 6 in cylinder?

It is a 4 inch cylinder i think....for some reason I am having a brain fart! No log splitter valve (That I know of, my neighbor is more the brains of the operation)


Actually the day I posted the pictures I bent one of the wings on the wedge, so it is back to the drawing board. (Although it still works fine) the wings need to be made longer so it goes through the entire block, especially on the bigger ones.

I have a question for anyone in the know........The hydraulic pumps that run off the PTO used on things like hay mergers, if I had one of those for a 540 PTO would it increase the speed of my ram? And if so would it take away splitting power?

The speed of the ram is determined by the GPM of the pump. What is the GPM of what you have now. If you get a PTO pump. you will have to size it by the HP available. The pressure on the PTO pumps are about 2250 psi. This PTO pump takes about 12 HP to run it. The power of the ram is determined by the pressure, and the size of the ram.
