Unimaginable Gun accident

I have a thing about accident analysis. You don't learn much by doing it right.

Several climbing and caving groups post all the accidents and disasters they can think of, kinda like our Safety forum, so people can see and discuss what went wrong. I've caught onto that practice.

This one is not intuitively obvious.

I agree with DocHeb. This was not an accident. Someone made a conscious decision to let the kid shoot this gun. They are responsible for what happened.

Mike, Speaking from person experience I might disagree a bit with "Someone made a conscious decision to let the kid shoot this gun.".

I have a teenage nephew that has some physical challenges. He was out with us shooting lighter pistols and asked if he could try the 45 acp. I must have been only semi conscious when I said yes and only semi conscious when I saw him struggling to send lead down range. I finally woke up to stop him before he squeezed a round off. I guess my point is that had someone really been thinking it through this sad accident probably would not have occured.

After reading the full text I had one of those "There but for the Grace of God go I" moments.

Accident: an unexpected usually sudden event that occurs without intent or volition although sometimes through carelessness, unawareness, ignorance, or a combination of causes and that produces an unfortunate result.

It was an accident but I do agree, they are responsible for what happened. Someone is always responsible.
