Underbody/topside truck box?

Has anyone ever mounted a topside box as an underbody? Can you see any obvious problems?

I need an underbody box for one of my trailers and don't really have 18" of depth clearance for a standard underbody box. I can fit a 12 or 14" deep topside box.

I see no reason why you can't use a top side box as an underbody box. I mounted a 14" deep topside box underbody on a gooseneck trailer I previously owned for the same reason. Just had to make my own support brackets to hold the box.

If there is structure above the box, why can't you hang the box with bolts? My steel ones I have could support themselves that way. Jon
