Are bigger JD tractors better? Not if you want one where you can shift the gears!

It's sickening when a big established corporation won't come good for building junk!

I still don't have my tractor back its been at their shop all year and they don't even have a backorder date on this so called part. How is this acceptable. I'm still making my 600 dollar payment s month and it's just sitting in their shop...I'm so mad

sorry to read of your problems ,I live as far south in texas as you can get . there were two dealers but 1 is changing brands , the 1 that is still jd dealer, their counter help does not like to be bothered only one person there is helpful dealership in weslaco,tx .
my tractor is 1978 2040 . I like to buy USA products but it sure is hard when companies dont take care of the small person.
the dealer that is changing brands is Rivera in donna ,tx and they go out of there way to get you parts .
I am answering your post to show how wide this problem of" mighter than thou" JD is getting.

I'm going to try and make this as short as possible, I'm so frustrated. About 5 years ago I bought a brand new 4520, i only had about 70 hrs on it and long story short it had an electrical problem to where it would sit for 2 or 3 weeks and then not start up. I didn't have my tractor for months throughout the year. It was In the shop multiple times and they could not figure out the problem. It also had several mechanical issues.
After a long hard fight with corporate they told me they would buy the tractor back but I would have trade up to a 4066r so for about 7000 dollars more that's what I did. I noticed from the start the hydraulics seemed very weak on the tractor. I told John deere about it but they said they were up to specs. Last fall there was a recall on engine. I took them till spring to fix it. We also noticed a rear axle leak , tractor was still under warranty. I told them while in the shop to check the hydraulics and the loader problem as mentioned on this forum. The axle leak was back ordered for months and again my tractor sat in the shop for 6 weeks. They told me they would return my tractor and to run it with the rear axle leak. Finally the part came in , it took 2 more weeks in the shop they finally fixed my tractor and said the hydraulics were up to specs by a field rep.
I got the tractor back and just bought a new drill. My tractor should have picked it up no problem, it didn't budge it an inch off the ground. My buddies kubota mx5100 lifted it with no problem, it has less lifting capacity the my jd by a few hundred lbs. So I call them again. While on the phone with a different dealer. He mentioned they now have a "product improvment" warning for the loader the I mentioned. I gave them the I told you so and my tractor is now back in the shop. They supposedly fixed the loader problem, but are now waiting on back ordered parts for the new improvment problem with the pistons and valves for the 3pt hitch. I told them I'm done with this tractor. It just turned 2 years old and has 170hrs on it. I'm losing money in my sweet corn and pumpkins etc. They may give me a deal if I trade up to a 5090m, but I'm so scared to get another deere at this point. I have a b series kubota with zero issues..I'm not a picky or crazy consumer... .does this seem fair to be jerk Ed around like this??? Are the bigger tractors better quality? This is too much time with large tractor payments and no tractor to use.

Keep trading up until you get a tyractor JD has parts for on hand. :confused3:

U think u have problems?? I got a call last month from a guy who has a 2 yr old tractor that has 40 hrs on it.!!! Injection pump is toast, metal thru out the system.. the inj. pump ate itself..
I encouraged the customer to contact JD & see if they'll cover it.. cuz it was gonna be BIG $$$ to fix the pump & flush the system..
He called me & said he "raised cane" w/ JD & threatened them w/ taking his business elsewhere, {he's a big time farmer}
They sent a tech to go p/u his machine.. & replaced the pump under JD warranty..

i have had a good one/bad one...........well i take that back, a good 49 model b that i grew up on, a good 44 slant dash A that i still have, a 2210 that i didn't have good luck with but even at that my dealer was spectacular and rode out the issues and covered the prices of failed parts and missed diagnosis and even went the extra mile more than once, i was patient, kind and sat down more than once and talked with the tech and svc mgr and we sorted through things and what options we had, they finally got it fixed after 4 attempts and corporate tech assistance for something that was intermittent and a misery for all of us to deal with and expensive parts, just the steering valve was 1900/each, a friend that farms our row crop is an ALL deere person with the exception of the fords they had when we were growing up that he uses now for grain auger tractors and raking or other jobs at his multiple farms, he has 5 deeres all 7 and 8K series, he quit on the 6 series mostly due to weight needed for implements, he said his tw20 and 9700 fords would run circles around the 4wd 6K series on dry ground with duals so he went with the 7/8 series deeres to completed his arsenal. He likes his deeres and has good support from the dealers he works with. I now have a 2038R that i really like, its been good so far with only 22 hours on it, ready to do my 25 hour first oil change. I like it a lot so much better than the 2210 and problem free. My only complaint is the 4wd lever. I liked the one on the 2210 but this one is so stiff its a pain in the butt to get in/out of 4wd and not in a convenient spot if you ask me. Its almost like they paid attention to many other details of the tractor but forgot about getting it shifted in/out of 4wd. That would be my only complaint for it. I have only put about 3 hours on it of the 22 my daughter n wife have put on the rest mowing. I have used the loader a few times to move some things around or used it to haul firewood. I am not thrilled with the R4 tires, they don't seem to get the traction that my R4 type tires did on the 2210, they were a different pattern and not as stiff. But i feel for this person and the dealer/deere treatment. I can say when i was tractor hunting before i bought the 2038 i looked and went to so many places/brands and i ended up back at deere and their treatment was stellar. I would HIGHLY recommend them for sure. I hope this has been resolved since the last post of 2017. I cant imagine brake problems or lift problems these days with so many improvements over old stuff and the brakes we used to have on old tractors lol, some of them were just flat dangerous.

Sorry to hear you are having these problems. I farmed for years and ran Deere and never had that type of problem. I had the big tractors and combines and cotton pickers. My dealer always looked after me and treated me right. I am no longer farming but do have CUT tractor to do landscaping and work around the house 4120 hydro and no problems and tier three engine, built in Augusta, GA. Have 800 hours on it and do food plots clip pastures, has 400 loader, forks, tiller,post hole digger, box blade, disk, spreader and more. I think it must be your dealer. John Deere sent me a questionnaire on my side by side about dealer service and on my zero turn. Told them that Zero turn still back fires but other than that all was fine. The next monday my Dealer's service manager called me and told me to bring my Zero turn in and they would take care of the problem. By the way, it had been out of warranty for over three months and they didn't charge me a thing. That was all due to corporate taking care of the customer.

The first tractor on our small farm was a JD model M, that my grandad bought back in 1950, to replace a team of horses. Many other tractors have come and gone since then, but that old 2-cylinder M is still poppin. My retired father uses it in his garden and for dragging logs on occasion. The last tractor that I bought was a 2004 JD 4120 power-reverser. Other than needing a new starter in 2009, it has been trouble-free. There is a dealer a couple miles away, but the only thing I go there for is an engine oil filter, every 100 hours of operation. The guy at the parts counter is always pleasant Those two Deere's have definitely been our most dependable tractors, compared to the Fords, Allis-Chalmers, and Farmalls that we have had.
