Anyone know what size this socket is?
Part number is : 58309-73100
The best price I've found is $185 for the socket.

Wanted to check valve clearance and need something to turn the motor with....not sure how accurate I can get with starter .

Is that an LS part number?

That is a ridiculous price for a single socket!

It is not that bad doing it using the starter. You need a remote start push button set up that you can make with some wire and a momentary push button. That way you can observe the valve train as you bump the engine.

I see your tractor is a 4 cylinder. All you need to do is figure out the paired cylinders. Probably 1/3 and 2/4. What this means is, for example, when #1 is on compression stroke, #3 is on exhaust. All you need to to to check valves on #1 is bump the engine so cylinder #3 valve rockers roll together, meaning as the exhaust valve is closing, the intake is opening (overlap). Stop there and check # 1 valves. Repeat for other cylinders. You should be able to check all cylinders in 4 rotations of the engine.

That part number is from the service manual but I think it is a Mitsubishi number.
I like the starter idea but don't you worry about the engine starting?
Do you think I can re-use the gasket?

I have no idea the size socket you need, but go to Harbor Freight and buy a set of the large 3/4" drive sockets. They start at 3/4" and go to 2", so there is surely a size there that you need. I got mine several years ago at a sale price of $49 each for SAE and Metric. With large equipment, you shouldn't be without a large socket set. These sockets are not Snap-on quality, but definitely plenty good for the average JOE who needs them occasionally. For the farm, I don't need any socket to be Snap-On quality. I have used mine with 650 ft pound impact gun with no damage.

Gary thanks for the good advice. Do you think it's metric or SAE? I'm thinking it's metric on a Mitsubishi engine.

Definitely metric.

Do you think I can re-use the gasket ?? If I'm careful ? I'm guessing it rubber/silicone....not paper or cork.

Rubber gasket: good chance it can be reused.
Cork: maybe if it is not hard or breaks.
Paper: slim to no chance.

I'd still buy one and have it on hand, otherwise if it does not turn out, you're stuck waiting for a new one.

Gasket was rubber, had to remove hood, used alternator instead of 46mm hub, 0 on hub is either tdc or bdc (use stick to remove factory paint on inside edge, timing mark very visible, 0degrees to 40 degrees are visible) ie, valve 1 or 4 u can start on, ( the only ones that rock should be adjusted, then rotate to 0 again, do the ones not done previously) , should only have to go to 0 twice, then turn over couple times and check, found a couple loose, couple real tight, need 12mm with nuckle for cover, 12mm box shorty and regular for valve adjustment and stubby flat screw driver. Got rid of a lot of clacking noise on start up. Tightened cover to10ft/lbs, not leaking right now. Wipe everything down ie muffler, cover before you start.
