Tym 273 pto wont stay engaged

Hey all, I have a tym 273. I am having trouble with pto. I engage lever to on and when I press the engage button on dash it lights up and pto spins but won't stay on. As soon as I release button it turns off. Am I doing something wrong? Defective button?? Help. Haha.

Does the 273 have a PTO control switch near the ignition? If so what position do you have it in, manual, off or auto? That may affect your operation since you only mention the PTO lever and PTO on/off switch.

All it has is the on / off lever to the left of seat on fender and the engage switch on dash.. When the lever is on and I depress the engage button it works but once I release button it turns off..

When you say it lights up but wont stay on, I assume you mean the PTO stops moving but does the light on the PTO switch go off as well?

Yes, when I push the green engage button the dash indicator illuminates as well as the button and pto engages. Then won't stay depressed so it all stops once I let go... I am pretty sure it's just a bad switch...

I would be inclined to agree with you. Looked through the forum a bit and saw some references to a bad solenoid but the symptoms were different.

Will check that too. Thanks. I do hear a clicking with tractor off and ignition switch on and when I push pto button.

So was messing with tractor today and noticed that not only does the pto not stay engaged but the cruise does the same thing... Works if I hold down but once I let go it stops.. Maybe related???

When my cruise stopped working the brake switch had moved. Slight tightening and adjustment and all was good. I can't remember if the PTO wiring goes through the brake switch or not but it might. I'll try and dig out my wiring diagram later and see.
