Two story Shop on steep grade - Help me Design/Build it!!!

I too was in a somewhat similar situation.

All my life on the farm I was unable to build a proper shop. Anytime funds were available for a building, another cold storage room would be built. It was a simple matter of economic viability.

Over a thousand tons of carrots in cold storage but no proper spot to repair tractors and equipment.

Out of couriousity, were the carrots just kept cold, or did they need to have something done to the room air (like displacing the air with Nitrogen as is done with Apples)?

The carrots were washed and graded immediately after harvesting and placed into refrigeration to remove field heat.

They were kept for up to two months at 33-34 degrees Fahrenheit usually until the end of January. This is the only way we could extend our marketing in a northern climate. When our crop was exhausted we would switch to packaging California carrots. (1, 2, 3, and 5 pound cello bags.)

Nitrogen would provide no benefit as in apples. Higher humidity at temps just above freezing worked best.

Good to know, didn't know if they breathed like apples do.

So you can sell (did?) cooling units and use buildings for ___. Yeah, one for metal shop, weld shop, train room, gun/reloading, motor service (lift for cars, trucks, ramp/platform for tractors ...

Just messin', BB I'm sure much of the appreciation oof your shop thread, esp silent, is for how you inspire us to get in the shop, tidy up , and do more.

Mark, I expect that what you gain with the power access upgrade will keep you so busy with projects you'll worry less and later about how much room you have. Stuff will be in and out so fast you won't have much to service, to sweep, to heat, to light, ... jon
