hello again fellas.i am now thinking of going with a tuthill automatic fuel pump to pump my diesel fuel from my 30 gallon poly drum.could someone please explain the difference between the ac and dc models?i understand that you must hook these pumps up to a battery to power them.can you hook them up to your vehicle battery while it is still connected to your vehicle?also what kind of connectoer do they come with to hook them up to your battery, alligator clips, etc.?if not alligator clips could i safely change them to this or are the ones that come with the unit better than alligator clips.basically i need some kind and patient soul to walk me through this process in layman's terms, like you were explaining the process to your 3rd grader, you know real simple.
thanks again guys for all of the help in my previous rookie posts.
thanks,

One plugs into the standard 120V household power and one uses a 12V battery to power the pump. The 12V battery can either be stand-alone or the one in the vehicle.

Yes, how do you think those pumps work that are in the back of every excavator's pickup truck? They are powered from the vehicle battery.

Usually aligator clips. You can always change them to whatever suits your individual application needs.

Also, there usually is a static ground lead from the pump that must be connected to the vehicle ground while filling.

Connecting and using these pumps is not rocket science. It just takes common sense and safety first.

Anywhere from about $239 to $599, usually closer to $300 for the light duty ones.

Plenty of places sell them. There are several brands available and all look like they were made by the same company. Tuthill makes the Fill-Rite brand. Agri-Supply sells several brands and so does Northern Tool and Messicks.

Any place on the vehicle body where an electrical connection can be made. Unpainted metal, for example.
