Turning field into lawn

I just moved into a house on a 7-acre parcel with a 2-acre pond. The field would be a perfect place to play ball with my 3 boys, but it is so bumpy and filled with holes that it's dangerous to run on. I think I've decided to let someone else do the heavy lifting on this one. However, who do I call? A landscaper guy? Or a tractor guy? A bulldozer guy? And how will I know if the guy I call really knows what he's doing? I'm looking to turn about 75' by 200' into a smooth ballfield. Wonder how much cash this is going to take out of my nearly empty pockets?

BOB, If the bumps and hills are less than 6 - 12 inches tall/deep, this is a perfect project for a compact tractor with a tiller, back blade or box scraper and a rake. 1/3 of an acre should take less than a day, much less if you have a help on the ground picking stones. My guess - this work should cost no more than 200 - 300, (not including seeding and mulching or any additional topsoil). If the bumps/hills are more extreme your talking dozer time and getting some additional topsoil trucked in.

Just dealt with a similar situation a month ago. My area was about 100x200, on a mild slope with several dips of about 3 feet. A real pain to brush hog. It took a dozer with operator about 3 1/2 hours to level out the dips. Not much could be done about the slope. The cost was $250. It took about another 3 hours with the tiller to break up the soil after the dozer had compacted it.

REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW ROUGH IT IS. if it is only uneven then u can do it with a cut and some implements but if it is really rough then u might want to look into a dozer to rough level it and then u can take over.
