Turn the Key but no power. After checking the oil I went to start the tractor, when I tried to start the tractor I get no power. I went back later to check and the lights and gages became active but when I turned to key they all died again. Any Idea what might make this happen? Im thinking a bad ignition switch. Not sure how to check it though.

Could be the switch, they're notoriously unreliable. But check for a loose/dirty electrical connection first. Start with battery cable connectors, all four ends. Then the wire that goes from the starter solenoid to the starter switch. Then the wire that goes from the starter solenoid to the fuse panel

I would start at the switch, Clean it up with electric contact cleaner then check the connections both on the switch itself and the wire connectors, I had the same problem with my TC35 and it was a loose grungy connection, If it all checks out I would bet its a battery connection.

I went through something similar last month. 1) First I would check the top two fuses. 2) If (1) doesn't work, I'd disconnect the battery and clean all the connections on the starter and solenoid.

It worked for me and it's been OK during the rest of the winter.

I also have to say check connections and wires 1st, make sure they're clean andin good shape.

My did the same thing a couple yrs back it was the safety switch for the clutch.

Another vote for the clutch safety switch and connections. Check them grounds good. Also with the tractor in neutral try jumping the starter solenoid to see if it will crank. Be careful.

Thank you all for your replys. I will check all my connections and go from there. If it is the ignition switch do I have to go through the dealer to get one or can I pick up a generic swich to replace it with? It is Diesel and has an H spot on the ignition for the glow plugs.

Dead simple, easy to get, not at all expensive. Back when I replaced mine, they were running between $9 and $13. I'm pretty sure you can still get one AND change back from a twenty. Just ask for a Ford cold start switch. The "cold start" means it's got the same Heat position as your current switch.
