Turfs - To load or not to load

Roy, since we've found out about the calcium to the solid weight we've setup a lot of tractor's without the calcium and some without rear ballast of any kind depending on the chassis and loader combinations.

We've found that with many models that the three sets of weights recommended as max from Kubota work fine for all the counter weight needed and have never looked back. The thoughts of removing the weights are mute as most never do for different jobs. We've found that for the DX's on the CaseIH side many of those are rear heavy anyway and need very little weight added for the home owner that likes a loader.
I can't see everyones property, but I've been on hills with tractors and slid off when wet, had tractors on two wheels and see at least about one a year that has rolled over.

The things I have seen and been able to feel, the performance of a lighter tractor with the same horsepower. The fact that if it is not a liquid filled tires and cast is used it actually takes less weight to give traction(not stability)because any tire can flex to the ground faster. That with cast it is a constant, how do you know when you have a flat tire you didn't loose 100 to 150lbs on one side?

I'll speak for myself but I will offer to take the weights back and fill the tires if a customer is not satisfied, I haven't had to exchange yet and I know the bulk of our sales people are on the same track. When the wheel has no provisions for weights then we have few options depending on use but to load the tires.

I buy for longevity, and I know some just buy because they can. I treat my customers the way I want to be treated, and recommend what we've seen as being the most successful and the best investment for them. If they see it in a different way that is fine too! We do sell a fair amount of tractors in a year and we've been moving away from the liquid for over ten years with good success. I know it hurts my tire repair business in the long run no different then having the ability to sell more then one brand of tractor and being able to help a customer pick one that is better suited for him for less problems or better efficency for a commercial operator.

It really makes little or no difference to the amount of hours a year the tractor is used. After all, if the tractor is really right it might mean less seat time yet!

I utilized used anti-freeze in my previous tractor a 4100.
