Turf to R14T Tires

62" working width. It's about all my 6400 lb tractor can handle when offset, and weighs about 700lbs.

That's a bit surprising.

I have a Caroni TM1900 which is a 73" working width.

I have it on my B3030 Cab which is only about 2200#. According to the manual, the flail weighs 716# and I have it configured offset. Sure, it's a load but I've never felt uneasy about it. According to TractorData.com:

From what I've read the R14 seems to be a hybrid between an R1 and a R4 tire. The R4's main use is usually in commercial work on hard compact dirt/gravel or asphalt type ground. Just gives it more wear durabilities with the wider lugs.
I wanted R1's on my LS when I bought it but they were backordered and didn't know when they could get them. This was in early '22 so things hadn't caught up yet. Still neutral on the R4's, not much snow for plowing the last few years so can't help there.

As far as ply, it depends on where your at, my 25 year old JD-770 have R1's on it and over the years the fronts worn down so far after a wash I could almost see my reflection where the tread used to be it before it dawned on me that maybe I should replace them. They were only 4 ply but never have had a flat in the 25 years I've owned it. It was basically my CAT when I first built on my property so it was well used here in the PNW anyway. Brush and sticker bush's mainly. The first year I bought my LS-235 went to throw some brush/logs on the neighbors burn pile and a day or two later noticed I had a front flat. Nail in the lug part of the tire and it is either a 6 or 8 ply R4.

As far as grass damage, I have clay so mucky in winter and rock hard in summer. When turning with the lighter JD R1's it will sink and leave a little divot when wet and a shallow divot when dry but narrow grass tear. The same with my heavier R4's LS, it will sink a bit but not much tear but when dry will tear fairly wide. Neither tractor has loaded tires. This is around the house area with the "good" grass. Double that with it in 4x. As far as mud traction, I had to tow my LS out of deep mud with the JD because it sank too far around my burn pile. I didn't go too far after realizing I couldn't get out and didn't want to "walk it out" with the bucket and make a mighty mess.

It's partially cut off in the picture, but mine is a ditch bank flail that moves out 5' beyond the rear tire width, and rotates up 90 degrees or down 45 degrees. It's a lot of weight hanging out to the side.
I use it primarily to mow stream banks and it sure beats using a string trimmer like I used to do.

It's partially cut off in the picture, but mine is a ditch bank flail that moves out 5' beyond the rear tire width, and rotates up 90 degrees or down 45 degrees. It's a lot of weight hanging out to the side.
