I want to purchase a new Kubota but I'm not sure of the type of tire to order. I've got turf tires on my old Cub 7234, but I was wondering if the industrial treads do much damage on lawns. I've got about 2 plus acres to cut, plus a little snow to push in the winter. My old Cub weighs about 2500 lbs and I want a lighter/smaller sized tractor thats about 1400-1700 lbs.

If you plan on mowing with your new tractor, I would stick to turf tires. I have AG tires on my lightweight BX2200 and it does tear up the grass quite a bit. Especially when in four wheel drive!

I'm was sure the AG tires were a bad idea, I thought I might be able to get away with the less agressive treads on the Ind bias tires since I was going to a lighter tractor. Maybe I need to ask the wife for two new tractors. One for grass and the other for dirt and snow. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great idea, but I doubt it'll work. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've read posts here where folks claim reasonable traction in snow with turf tires. I have R4 Ind. tires, appreciate their kindness to the lawn, but really need something more aggressive. I'll purchase chains soon. My property is steep and has lots of springs.

I have turf tires on my b 7500. I work the machine year round and i have no traction issues on snow services. firestone rears and carlisle's up front. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have a 7500 and I went with the R4s. Very happy with the traction and I cut about 2ac also. It will tear up some if you turn real tight but it grows right back and im not cutting a golf course. My friend also has a 7500 and he needs chains in the winter and I dont. We both plow using rear blads on gravel driveways. - JB

My Cub's front Turf tires will scuff up the grass a little bit when I make a tight turn in 4WD. They were really bad on the ice & snow until I got chains for them, but what a pain in the **** to them on. And there's always some wet areas on my property as well. I'm leaning towards the R4s. Plus they look kinda cool on the tractor, and you know how important looks are. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

About 20 years ago, ag or turf were your only choice. I loved the way the ags pulled, but they killed my yard until it turned to concrete in mid summer. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I went with turf tires on one tractor. After having ags, it made my tractor feel like a pig on ice. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Besides, they still tore up my yard; not as much as the ags, but still did some.

For the last several tractors I've gone with nothing but R4's. I love them. They give me great traction in mud and snow but don't tear up my yard anymore than the turf tires did. We had a 30" snow this last winter with drifting as well. I never needed chains and my 5030 pulled and plowed just fine with the R4's. I'll never buy a tractor with anything different. Oh yes, they have one other advantage as well; they seem to have a thicker carcass and be less prone to punctures due to large thorns, stalks, or bush stalks left over from bush hogging.

Click here to see this same topic running in the other Kubota forum. 95% of BX owners will say that turfs don't have enough traction and that bars do no damage to their grass. Many of us have a set of each, the bars on the tractor, and a set of turfs sitting unused somewhere in storage. Get the bars. If you later want turfs, there are numerous members on here who will sell you their unused turfs for half price.

Thanks for the info Tom. I'm gonna go with the R4 Ind sneakers for my new tractor. Now I just need to decide between the 7800 and the 7610.
