Anybody have the part number of a head gasket for a 98 3930? The online New Holland parts listing shows 1 and it is for a 3930 3/1/90 and later. That gasket clearly does not fit the turbo 3930 after 1/98.

Gary, what makes you think it is not the correct gasket?
PN 87801653 is the gasket used throughout the BSD333 engines with and without turbo after 1990 to 2005.

Because when the gasket is set on the head, the water holes are partly exposed. The engine rebuilder installed it. We put water in it before starting and the oil pan filled up with water. It's not a BSD, It's an emissionized 3930 with turbo engine serial 829062 build date 20/1/99 (on the valve cover tag) Tr serial # is 119244B. New Holland dealer told me the same about the head gasket. One problem I haven't checked out is the rebuilder may have put a Farm Trac head gasket on it. Will let you know.

Gary, I'm going to assume that your rebuilder wasn't using OEM or equivalent parts. The emissionized engines were still BSD (Basildon Series Design) engines but incorporated turbo with the appropriate manifold and piston changes. The serial number format changed, but did not mean the engine was of a different design. The 87801653 head gasket is the only one referenced and is not in the part number update for those engines.

Attached is the service bulletin about the fuel pump and some of the changes for these engines. Emissionized 3930 & 46300001.jpgEmissionized 3930 & 46300002.jpg

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Thanks for the info. I figured out the fuel pump. We then had to remove it and send it to the shop because it wouldn't pump The head gasket had to come from a Farm Trac. The gasket kit was aftermarket. The kit had the wrong gasket. And also as you know from the service bulletin the intake and exhaust gaskets were wrong also. We got it figured out and it runs good. When I worked at the dealer in the 80s and 90s, they were slow in letting the dealers know about changes. It caused problems sometimes. Thanks again,
Gary

I guess I don't understand why the OP is blaming the OE manufacturer for an aftermarket supplier selling incorrect parts.
