Box Scraper tuffline box blade scarifier falling out

I bought a 72" tuffline boxblade used.It came with all the scarifiers, but how do thry stay in place? The scarifiers have notches in them, but i can see a way to pin them. I know Im missing something. what is it? And yes im a newbie if you couldnt tell.

There may be a bent spring that goes behind the scarifier, forcing it forward.

I don't think I have any pictures of the Monroe Tufline box blade I used to have. If I remember right, the scarifiers have the notches on the back side. You put one in the slot, push the notch back onto the bar and drop a pin in front of the scarifier than holds it back. You can use the same kind of bent pin that's used to hold a hitch head in the receiver on a pickup, and can get them at places like Tractor Supply Company. I've forgotten exactly what diameter pins you need.

The "pin" that drops in could be square shaped. Mine are welded to short pieces of chain so they don't get lost. The pin goes in front of the shank after you drop the shank to the proper depth and lock it in place. Weld them to a 6" piece of chain once you get some. The other end of the chain gets welded next to the slot.

i tried using regular hitch pins and they worked ok but one still fell out and i lost the pin. Ive emailed tufline and hopefully they will get back to me soon. Does anyone have any pice of how they work properly?

Does it appear that something has been welded near each slot? Actually mine had the square pins, too, like Lewis Gordon said, and each one was welded to a short piece of chain, but I mentioned the other kind because I don't know where you'd find the square ones. Of course you might find square stock that you could cut and bend, and even weld some chains to each piece if you have a welder.

My Howse was just like what Bird described.



I don't know if you can see it in that photo or not, but the bent hitch pins are placed in front of the scarifiers to keep them in the slot you choose. Those bent pins I think were 1/2" diameter. Below the big square tube (where the scarifiers fit through) they were held on with a smaller lynch pin.

The notches on my scarifiers are also in the back so the "pins in question" go in front of the scarifiers. There are no chains or evidence of anything being welded to the box blade. Once the scarifiers are in place there is no room for anything else to pass completly through the frame, so as to be pinned to keep the hitch pin from falling out. Mine must have had the square type of pin on the spring pins, but I have no idea on where to find them.

This is what the Tufline factory installed on mine. The pin itself is just a short piece of square steel stock. You can chain them or make a removable T of 1/2" square steel. The leg of the T needs to be 3-4" long and the top could be 2" across. Drop the T's into the slots with the top bars parallel with the front edge.

You can get them at AGRI SUPPLY ( FLAT PIN $9.49 TO 9.99 ) THEY ARE 3/4" WIDE AND 1/2" THICK. LOOK LIKE A " L " UPSIDE DOWN IN PLACE AND THEY NEED A PIECE OF CHAIN ABOUT 6 " LONG WELDED TO THE BOX AND FLAT PIN. I 'VE CUT A PIECE OF STEEL AND THEN TOOK A BURNING TORCH AND BEND MY ON.
